TS-Gateway in WS08

One of my goals before the end of the year is to migrate/recreate our domain at First Church to newer, bigger, more reliable hardware that was donated to us by super volunteer Ken. We are running out of space on our old SBS white box.

The new equipment will run Windows Server 2008 Standard x32 bit. I chose this platform because it gives us some of the abilities of SBS 2003 Remote Web Workplace without limiting Domain Controllers or total users. By using the Terminal Services TS Gateway in WS08 we are able to allow connections to internal resources (namely, PC’s) via an RDP connection over HTTPS.

In English, this means that folks with updated Windows XP or Vista computers will be able to connect to their office computer without having to jump through a bunch of hoops. I am still trying to iron out the last few kinks in order for the remote connections to be as painless as possible.

As always, I’ll keep you posted.
