My new car (or at least new to me) came from the factory with a single CD player with simple bass and tremble
controls, FM radio with 6 presets, and that is about it. While it sounds fine, I was looking for something with a few more features. However, I also didn’t want some cheesy aftermarket radio with lights and fancy graphics. What to do?
I scoured the forums of the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club (NASIOC, yes I’m a member and a dork) for the right solution. After several hours of research, this post helped me determine what I needed. I discovered I could use a 2007 Impreza Factory radio with 6 disc CD changer and, most importantly, an auxiliary input.
The 2008’s wouldn’t work because they used different factory connectors, the 2006’s didn’t have the auxiliary inputs, it had to be 2007. A few failed eBay bids later and I finally landed a 2007 radio. Apparently the 07’s are popular.
David Carter, from the NASIOC had the right adapter I needed pictured here to hook up an mp3 player. Installation was pretty easy and now I am in business with a 2007 Subaru factory radio with aux input for my 2003 Impreza Outback Sport.
I really like the factory look, plus as Amy said, “It makes your car look newer.”
