Ragamuffin

It is reasonable to say the musician who had the most impact on my life was someone I never met in person or even saw perform live. In fact his music was really too contemporary for me. However, his lyrics are what spoken to me the most, pun intended.

Rich Mullins was a poet.

I recently had the opportunity to watch Ragamuffin – The True Story of Rich Mullins at a premier in Joplin. The movie was well delivered, the acting was solid, and the story was what I expected…mostly. I didn’t leave the auditorium feeling good though. I felt sad. Certainly I was sad that Rich died way to early in life, but more so because he struggled much of his life. I didn’t get the feeling he even enjoyed life at all. In all the interviews and videos I have seen of Rich previously he was a quirky guy with a good, but odd, since of humor.

I honestly don’t know that I would watch the movie again. His songs paint such a different picture of him than the movie. Either way, I will not stop listening to his music. My favorites are We Are Not As Strong As We Think We Are, and Calling Out Your Name
